At the bottom of the lane is the centre of Challignac, a small village surrounded by vineyards. Challignac is a 10-minute drive from Barbezieux, which has bakeries, restaurants, shops, a cinema, a château and supermarkets. Just around the corner from the property is the town hall, where a pizza van visits on Friday evenings. There is also a bread machine about 2 km away in the neighbouring village of Berneuil.
