The castle of Villebois-Lavalette is a real citadel overlooking the village of Villebois-Lavalette. Surrounded by a fortress with seven towers, it stands between the Charente and the Périgord. A medieval atmosphere floats by as you approach it. This medieval castle is more than a thousand of years old and has an exceptional architecture. In 1980, this old castle is invaded by ivy and brambles, and it is damaged by time. This is when a dynamic is created to restore the bulding for 18 years. In 2000 M. Norbert FRADIN, a real estate entrepreneur and benefactor from Bordeaux, becomes the new owner of the castle. Passionated by protecting heritage, M. FRADIN started a new restoration on the castle to give its splendor back. Every history lover will love visiting this castle, at any age. Other must-see in the centre town: the covered market place, the church, the Ursulines convent, etc. Guided and self tours are available, as well as an escape game, themed enquiries and many cultural event throughout the year.
